Awareness and Utilization of UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium among the Library Users of Universities of Haryana

Abstract


In India, the scenario of the higher education system is very complex and large. As per the latest statistics from the UGC website, it consists of 47 central universities, 381 state universities, 123 deemed universities, 291 state private universities and 91 institutes of national importance. The university libraries play a significant role in higher education system. The UGC launched the UGC-Infonet Digital Library Consortium as an emerged "state of art" to maintain coordination and co-operation among the libraries. This study briefly discusses the awareness, utilization, and impact of UGC-Infonet in the users of universities of Haryana. The study also discusses the problems and difficulties faced by the respondents, while accessing the e-journals. For fulfillment of objective of the study, stratified random sampling method for collection of necessary data. The total numbers of 160 questionnaires are distributed among library users of university libraries of Haryana. 147 questionnaires were received for the data analyzed purpose The study reveals that the 100% respondents were fully aware of the UGC-Infonet and utilize for the purposes of teaching, learning, updating knowledge, research activity, paper publication, presentation preparation and many more. 94.56% respondents were agreed with the fact that UGC-Infonet has a great impact on study and research work.
