A Survey of Information Literacy Programmes in Engineering College Libraries in Bangalore

Abstract


The present study is an attempt to examine the implementation of information literacy programmes in engineering college libraries in Bangalore. The major objective of this study is to assess the importance and competencies of information literacy programmes in undergraduate level colleges, understand the implementation status and developing trends in information literacy programs and practices, to know how the information literacy programmes were planned, designed, delivered and also to know the difficulties faced while planning, designing and delivering the information literacy programmes. For data collection, questionnaire method was used. A total of 25 questionnaires were distributed to the 25 engineering college librarians in Bangalore and 20 filled-in questionnaires were received back with the overall response rate of 80%. The finding of the study shows that majority of engineering college libraries have implemented the information literacy programmes to aware and educate their user community.
