ICT Literacy (ICTL): Indispensable Competencies for The Library Professionals in The Modern ICT Era

Abstract


Now a day, ICT Literacy becomes prerequisite skills for the library and information professionals to perform the day to day library operations and activities in modern libraries, without ICT literacy skills it become very difficult for the library and information professionals to survive in the present digital information era. This paper is exhaustive review of literature available on the ICT literacy and gives an overview of the significance of ICT Literacy skills to the library and information professionals in the digital information age. Further it discusses need and advantages of the ICT literacy to library professionals in technology accelerated environment. It also describes the factors which are influences the ICT literacy development among the library and information professionals and the importance of training and orientation in ICT based resources, services and tools to the library and information professionals to enhance the ICT literacy.
