Corrosion inhibitors of steel to stainless

Kalpana Mahato, Bangshidhar goswami

Abstract

Concrete reinforced with steel and rebars is affected by surface corrosion of steels in being embedded state. Corrosion of chloride and carbureted moisture in embedded steels reduce life of concrete of high ways. Use of steel in corroded and un-corroded state shows more life in case of reinforcements in un-corroded state at laboratory scale. Flexural strength is more effective characteristics to determine state of concrete within lifeline period. Quality of rod at cheaper level favors galvanized rod than stainless steel reinforcements in marine constructions. Volume increase to two to four times is cause to form cracks in concrete by corrosion of steel under reinforcement. First line of defense is concrete cover of embedded reinforcement. Second line of defense is cathodic protection. And third line of defense is hot dip galvanized reinforcements for barrier protection.
