Evaluation of Antibacterial, Antioxidant, in vitroAnti-inflammatory and Cytotoxicity Activity on MCF-7 Cell Line from Methanol Extract of BryonopsislaciniosaFruits
Abstract
Bryonopsislaciniosa, a shrub known as “Shivlingi” in India, is neighbourly used as an apprentice medicine and tonic. As a folk medicine, it is used to treat a broad range of diseases and disorders. With these properties in mind, we have designed an experiment to evaluatethe antibacterial, in vitro antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cytotoxicity activities of methanol extracts. The methanol extract was evaluated for antibacterial activity by agar well diffusion method, antioxidant activities by DPPH, FRAP, hydrogen peroxide and ABTS methods. Further, it was investigated for in vitroanti-inflammatory activity by inhibition of protein denaturation and cytotoxicity activity using MCF-7 breast cancer cell line.Among the tested organisms, it showed the highest antibacterial activity against S.typhimurium (29 mm). It demonstrated impressive antioxidant properties, andits IC50 values of DPPH, hydrogen peroxide, ABTS and FRAP were 188.23 ± 2. 35 μg/mL, 81±1.41μg/mL, 278.6±0.94 μg/mL and 0.99±0.09 µg/mL respectively. It exhibited strong anti-inflammatory activity with an IC50 value of 60 ± 0.50 µg/mL and sensible activity against MCF-7 cell line. This work provides a scientific evidence for the high antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity of the plant; it may find potential application in the treatment of various diseases.
