Effect of Different Hormones on Plant Attributes and Yield of Field Pea (Pisum sativum L.)

Gurjinder Singh, Lokender Kashyap

Abstract

Field pea is the most valuable grain legume crop in India. The successive growth of plant depends on growth hormones that may be natural or artificial. The application of plant growth hormones has been demonstrated to enhance plant height, leaf area, leaf area index, crop growth rate, net assimilation rate, number of days to flowering, number of pods per plant, pod length and number of grains per pod. This study evaluated the effects of GA3, IAA and IBA @ 10, 50 and 100 ppm on the growth, development and yield and of field peas grown in Punjab-India. In the field experiment, most cases the application of GA3 @ 100 ppm enhance the plant height, leaf area, leaf area index, net assimilation rate, number of grains per pod, pod length, yield and straw. The yield of field peas from the GA3 @ 100 ppm was 17.85 q/ha, which was 6.51 q/ha higher than IBA 10 ppm. Therefore, the yield potential in the field pea crop depends on the plant growth, pod length and number of grains per pod.
