An Ayurvedic Approach of Preconceptional Care in Prevention of Multifactorial Genetic Disorders

Amrita M. Mishra

Abstract

Ayurveda is the science of life. The aim of Ayurveda is prevention and cure of diseases. Most of the disorders that we find in the present era have their references in some form or the other in Ayurvedic texts. What we need is to have a keen insight into the ancient Ayurvedic texts to find an answer to the major and minor health issues. On the similar lines, Ayurvedic texts distinctly reflect the fundamentals of genetics. Acharya Charaka has described the whole genetics in three genetic units in the form of Beej (Germinal cell), Beejbhag (Chromosome) and Beejbhagavyava (Gene). Ayurveda advised cleansing of the male and female body before planning to have a child and to take rejuvenation therapy to restore health which prevents the appearance of genetic disorder.
