Abstract

ABSTRACT
Mesua ferrea an ethno-medicinally important plant was investigated for in vitro anti-oxidant, in silico anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Evaluation of in vitro anti-oxidant activity of methanol extract was carried out by DPPH and ABTS and the results were compared with that of standard Rutin. Phytoconstituents of M. ferrea elucidated from literature survey were subjected to in silico molecular docking analysis against anti-inflammatory protein, membrane protein prostaglandin H2synthase-1 and anti-cancer target proteins tyrosine kinase, farnasyl transferase and nuclear factor kB. Results revealed that the plant has significant anti-oxidant activity with IC50 values of 0.026 mg/mL in DPPH assay and 0.6 μg/mL in ABTS assay. Total phenol content evaluated was 162 mg/g GAE which is significantly high. Molecular docking analysis highlighted the possibility of a-Amyrin becoming the lead candidate for future anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer drug development.
