Abstract

With increasing energy demands and constant depletion of conventional energy sources, importance of renewable energy sources has increased. It has become important to expand the use of renewable energy resources. The major challenges before renewable resources are that they produce voltage and frequency fluctuations and harmonic pollutants are introduced in them, and they decrease the overall performance or efficiency of the energy resources. This study reviews about all the issues associated with poor power quality in renewable energy sources-based power systems when they are linked to grids, utilized as distributing generators, integrating generators or as hybrid source. The approaches used to improve power quality have also been addressed.
