Review on Frequency Fluctuation Control in Wind Energy Generation System

K. Sudha, Harendra Pal, Avijit Mishra, Saurabh Sharma

Abstract

Frequency fluctuation is one of the major apprehensions for transmission system and power grid operation due to their hostile effects on industrial control system. As there is massive amalgamation of wind power and the power grid, a threat of inefficient and irregular power transmission due to randomly varying wind power remains as a challenge to overcome. For the same reason, in this paper, the minimization of the frequency fluctuation of a Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) by various methods is being analyzed critically. Furthermore, this paper reviews wide areas in minimizing the frequency fluctuations like fuzzy-logic base frequency controllers, frequency control of power system using HVDC transmission system and pitch control system. Each of these methods has divergent analyzing methods and stability improvement methodologies.
