Abstract

Abstract

The main aim of this research paper work is to study adolescent alienation in relation to family environment. Adolescent alienation is a teenager’s inability to connect meaningfully with other people. Alienation is frequently characterized by feelings of powerlessness, isolation &and self-estrangement. The family is a complex system composed of individuals interacting with one another. Three dimensions of family environment i.e., cohesion, expressiveness &and conflict are often used as indicators of family functioning. It was hypothesized that three dimensions of adolescent alienation i.e., powerlessness, isolation &and self-estrangement will have a significant inverse correlation with two dimensions i.e., cohesion and expressiveness in the family but will have a significant positive correlation with family conflict. Pearson product moment correlation were was used through STATISTICA software tool to study adolescent alienation dimensions with family environment dimensions. A strong significant inverse correlation was found between powerlessness, isolation &and self-estrangement dimensions of adolescent alienation &and cohesion and expressiveness dimension of family environment. A strong significant positive correlation was found between powerlessness, isolation &and self-estrangement dimensions of adolescent alienation &and conflict dimension of family environment.
