Lean Suppliers in Indian Automotive Industry: A Review

Abstract

The Automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers are under intense competitive pressure as they are facing several challenges regarding production cost, better quality and variety of the product. For this reason, the organizations have started following and applying lean manufacturing philosophy. To sustain in market, it is required to select lean suppliers for better production as they can easily respond and adapt themselves to the changing business requirements. Many studies have been conducted on lean manufacturing and implementation. This article is based on an intensive literature review and an attempt has been made to identify important contributions related to the subject. Further, the concept of lean suppliers, characteristics and benefits are also discussed in the paper.
