Casting a ‘Make in India’ Manufacturing Success

Priyavrat Thareja

Abstract

This work attempts to make an analysis of ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government of India, considering as to why and how it could rejuvenate the lagging manufacturing industry with a one stroke paradigm that underwrites effectiveness. It counts on some successes, while pointing out the imperatives that sustain the erratic performance, notwithstanding the understanding of promise by evaluators of global competitiveness. The accent on technology upgradation, innovation and growth in automotive industry (vis-à-vis foundry industry) are noted. Foundry industry being a large supplier to the automotive industry, which is slated to become a global hub, deserves the equal thrust to technology upgradation as for ‘Make in India’ and thus this study makes a case for ‘Cast in India’ paradigm similar to the former.

Keywords: ‘Cast in India’, automotive foundry, innovation, technology upgradation, Skill India
