In What Ways do Culture, Personality, and Organisational Factors Influence Knowledge Sharing Behaviour of Cataloguers in Nigeria Academic Libraries?

Tobechukwu Mary-Ann Njideaka, Wole Olatokun

Abstract

This study examined the factors that influenced knowledge sharing behaviour (KSB) of cataloguers in Nigeria academic libraries. Through an explanatory survey, the study employed a conceptual model to examine the influence of personality, culture and organisational factors on knowledge sharing behaviour of cataloguers in five academic libraries. Data was collected quantitatively from thirty-six cataloguers (a total enumeration). Findings showed that personality and culture had no significant influence on cataloguers KSB while organisational factor significantly influenced their KSB. However, collectivism (cultural), formalisation and peer-mentoring (organisational factors) significantly influenced cataloguers KSB but only in some libraries. Library managers and administrators should make an effort to promote organisational practices that encourage KS as well as build a culture that prioritises KS as ways of moving forward.
