Virender Kumar

Abstract

The paper defines Bibliometrics as a qualitative and quantitative analysis of publications for the purpose of ascertaining specific kinds of phenomena such as bibliographic control, relationship between different authors, disciplines, competence and capability of authors and distribution and direction of trend in literature of a subject in numerical and statistical manner. Citation studies of theses provide valuable information for providing the necessary resources to support researchers which is a high priority for any academic library. The scope of this study is the 84 theses submitted by the Ph.D. scholars in Management Department of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak during the period 2014–2018. 22123 Citations appended to these 84 theses form the basis of the study. This study is important, since no bibliometric study of citations has been carried out on Ph.D. theses in Management submitted to M.D.U. Rohtak. The reviewed bibliometric studies of Ph.D. theses revealed that most of the studies have been conducted in universities of Southern part of India and very few studies were conducted in other parts of India. There is a shortage of literature in bibliometric studies with regard to Ph.D. Theses submitted to the 65 universities of Haryana.
