Status of virtual reality research in India during 2002-2021: A scientometrics approach

Abstract


The main aim of the present study is to evaluate and analyze the research publication of Virtual Reality technology during 2002-2021 as indexed in the SCOPUS database. The present study has retrieved the Scopus database for search keywords Virtual Reality, VR technology in all fields in the last two decades and refined by country India. The study used various scientometrics parameters such as chronological growth of publications, authorship pattern, growth rate (AGR, RGR, and Dt), most collaborative authors/institutions/source title, citation analysis, and distribution by subjects/types of documents. For visualizing, Google Sheets, BIBExcel, and VOSviewer are used. The study finds the most frequently used keywords used for tracing the documents. The author retrieved 2832 records consisting of the conference proceedings, research papers, and review papers. The consistent growth in the VR technology fields has been registered. The maximum growth has been registered in the year 2016. The IIT Bombay has been maximum VR technology publications. The study reflected that the most of documents were contributed by double authored with 925 publications. The most favored source title was "Procedia Computer Science” with 151 publications. The top prolific author was “Lahiri, U”, and “Mantri, A”. The study revealed how VR technology research has grown in the last two decades in India. The output of this study can be helpful for researchers in this field to find the best documents and source titles.
