Abstract

Abstract
Most of the human population, particularly in developing countries, relies on staple crops, such as rice or maize, which does not provide the full complement of essential nutrients, specifically vitamin A that will lead to its deficiency. Vitamin A deficiency is a major public health problem causing many diseases. Increment of pro-vitamin A (beta carotene) in staple food; rice is a good option for overcoming this problem. Golden Rice and Golden Rice 2 are genetically modified rice produce beta-carotene in the endosperm of their grain. Golden rice 2 can efficiently provide nutritionally recommended value of beta-carotene in its cooked form and its beta carotene is as good as the beta carotene in oil at providing vitamin A, from studies it is also found safe to consume by human beings.
