Medicinal Uses of Some Cultivated and Wild Plants of Bhopal District

Abstract
Since few decades, the awareness and utilization of traditional knowledge in medicinal system to cure various diseases gained significant importance in human being. Advent in the modern medicinal technology and transformation of culture, indigenous knowledge is vanishing at a very fast rate. In the present investigation, 20 medicinal plants belonging to 10 families under 18 genera used by the local people and herbalists living in rural areas of Bhopal district areas has been documented. The plants distributed were as 11 herbs, 6 trees and 3 climbers. Information regarding the traditional medicinal uses of these plants was collected via questionnaire, group discussions and direct interview with the local people and Hakeems. This information will be beneficial in public health, research and providing lead to plants that can be useful in drug discovery.
