Case Study: A Patient with Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes and Carbuncle in Thigh Whose Diabetes is Managed by Ayurvedic Intervention

Tanwar Ankur

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a global pandemic with substantial public health implications. It is a well-known multifactorial metabolic condition defined by unusually high blood glucose levels caused by a shortage of insulin, either absolute or relative. Type-2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes, accounting for 90% of all diabetics. Carbuncle is a rare skin and soft tissue infection that primarily affects uncontrolled diabetics. Presentation of the Case: A 60-year-old Indian male with fever, discomfort, and swelling in his leg with pus discharge presented to our clinic. He had a maximum body temperature of 100.3 °F. Based on a high HbA1c and fasting blood sugar, as well as polyuria and polydipsia, the patient was diagnosed with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. The patient had been diagnosed with chronic diabetes mellitus based on his blood sugar and HbA1c levels for the past five years. The infection may progress in the subcutaneous plane and burrow upwards, generating many pus sites or sinuses, in the right circumstances, such as uncontrolled diabetes [as in our case] or other immunocompromised diseases. The findings were attributed to uncontrolled diabetes, according to the clinical presentation of the subject. After a month of Ayurvedic treatment, the patient was able to get rid of his problems. Conclusion: Ayurveda is a holistic, safe, and effective treatment for chronic diseases that threaten one's life. It has become an important aspect of the diabetic therapy approach. More research is needed to determine the clinical implications of Ayurveda treatment modalities in the current era of disease.
