Abstract


ABSTRACT
The present investigation was carried out at Vagaikulam of Tirunelveli District, Tamilnadu, to understand the use of medicinal plant species for various medicative purposes. It resulted in about 46 medicinal plants for the treatment of several diseases either in single or in combination with some other ingredients. Thorough investigation indicated that these plant species are used to cure diseases like diarrhea, dysentery, rheumatism, headache, fever, ulcer, cough, jaundice, blood purification, boils, etc. The information on correct botanical identities with family, local name and traditional practice of 46 plant species belonging to 24 families are discussed here for the treatment of various illnesses.
