Abstract

The present study was carried out on diversity of periphyton on different substrates. The substrates viz., isolated Acacia nilotica stem (A), bunch of A. nilotica stems (AB), mulberry stem (M), bunch of mulberry stems (MB) and scales of Catla catla (SC) was first time reported as substrates except stones (S). The substrates were inoculated in water for periphyton growth and incubated for 30 days. The water parameter showed variation in the initial and substrate added water as compared to aquaculture standards. The periphyton total number was high on A. nilotica isolated stems. The biomass was high on ‘A’ substrate. The Culex sp. and mothfly larvae were found in periphyton system. It was present in high density on ‘MB’; especially, the pupal growth was also high on mulberry bunches.
