Radial oscillation modes of delta Scuti stars KIC 2439660, KIC 3219256 and KIC 6965789 investigated using Kepler asteroseismic science data

Pubudu Samarasekara

Abstract

With the rise of Asteroseismology, studying the interior properties of unreachable stars is
possible from Earth and Earth centered orbits. Delta Scuti stars KIC 2439660, KIC 3215692 and
KIC 6965789 from the Kepler science data were used for our studies. Each star has around
38750 data points within Kepler quarters of 17.1 and 17.2. After removing the null points in data,
MATLAB software package was utilized to identify the best-fit curve of the frequency-
amplitude data. PERIOD04 was applied to identify the oscillation frequency and the mode of
oscillation of each star. PYTHON was used for calculation and analysis of those extracted data.
The pulsation constant depends on the period of peak, the effective temperature, the surface
gravity and the bolometric mass. The fundamental frequency and overtones were determined for
each star. Except 2439660, other two stars have gone up to the second overtones. But all three
stars have the rotational pulsation that stands out in amplitude consideration. Q value and the
phase were calculated at all the dominant peaks in each spectrum.
