Abstract

Many studies conducted in the past have shown how the higher education can be a stressful period in a student’s life. A student’s life during this period is usually accompanied by various stressors unsettling him inwardly, physically and emotionally. This is a retrospective study with the aim to identify the factors influencing the status of perceived stress level among the students studying Masters of Science. This study is entirely based on the primary data collected in University Campus, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. A representative sample of 300 students was taken for the study on the basis of proportion of students in each department out of total students. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Descriptive analysis was made using statistical tools like mean, median, standard deviation, maximum, minimum, cross-tabulations etc. The determination of significant explanatory variables was made using chi-square test and binary logistic regression. Out of 300 sample students, 41% of them perceived stress during the past month prior to the study. The study also revealed that factors like perception towards last academic performance of the students, where the students are living in and mean psychological stress of the students have significant role for varying status of perceived stress level among the students under study.
