Assessment of Heavy Metals in Underground Water Situated at Automobile Workshops in Ede Metropolis

The study investigated the determination of heavy metals concentration (Co, Cd, Ni, Pb, and Cr) in underground water situated in auto-mobile workshops in Ede metropolis. Four different samples were collected, two from the auto-mobiles workshop while two were collected 50 meters away from the Auto-mobiles workshop in both local governments which served as control. The result was Cr 0.416–0.477 mg/L; Cd-0.018–0.040 mg/L; Pb-0.038–0.066 mg/L; Ni-0.042–0.052 mg/L; Co-0.043–0.200 mg/L. Cobalt has the highest concentration (0.200 mg/L) in Ede South and (0.216 mg/L) in Ede North local government. The sites studied had higher level of heavy metals contamination when compared with the control area and WHO standard, this showed that the well water in these study areas were not good for consumption and disposal of waste into open unoccupied land-dwelling and water body poses a lot of environmental risk.
