Scientrometric Patriot of Steven Vogel, a Biophysicist

Susanta Koley, B. K. Sen

Abstract

Steven Vogel is one of the pioneers of biomechanics research in the world. This study presents bibliometric analysis of 131 publications (119 articles and 12 books) published during 1962–2016 with 39 co-authors. He has to his credit, 108 single-authored and 23 multi-authored papers. His highest productivity is 5 papers per year during 2002–2006 when his age was between 64 and 68 years and second highest productivity is 4 papers per year during 1997–2001 when his age was between 59 and 63 years. The highest productivity coefficient is 1.0 during 1972–73 and 1975. He used 68 communication channels for his publications and J. Biosci. (13 papers) is his most favorite channel. M. LaBarbera (4 papers) was the closest collaborator of Vogel. The publication concentration is 22.06 and publication density 1.75. The most frequently used keywords are life followed by flight organisms and drag. Finally, it shows that data set does not follow Bradford distribution.
