The Ethical Challenge in Solving the Problem of Climate Change

Oduora Okpokam Asuo

Abstract

The reality of a changing climate with its attendant grave consequences is one problem that every living human and mostly those who have been enlightened about the causes of climate change should be talking about. The effects of a changing climate have the potentials of negatively affecting virtually every other sphere of life. Increased temperatures, floods, poor agricultural productivity, the growth and spread of dangerous strands of diseases among others, are some of the evils that come with climate change. It is only expedient that every area of human civilization is mobilized in the attempt to ameliorate this environmental malady. This should include philosophy and indeed ethics. However, this paper discovers challenges that can mar the attempt to bring ethics to the rescue of the environment. The invaluable place of ethics in this bid to resuscitate nature makes it imperative to proffer solutions to these challenges. This paper used the analytic and critical methods in reaching its conclusion and assumptions.
