Education in India's Classical Traditions

Mohammad Asif Pasha

Abstract

Gurukul pupils are more well-behaved and well-organized. In school, the importance is given to adhering to a well-defined timetable and routine. Pupils in this class are more attentive and have more concentration capacity than other students. This improves their ability to concentrate utilizing methods like meditation. Learning the Vedas, Brahmanas and Upanishad was the primary method of education in the ancient world. Sources of knowledge included medical treatises by Charaka and Sushruta. The ancient education system had two sources: the Vedic and the Buddhist. The Vedas, Vedanta’s, and Upanishads served as the primary teaching tools in the Vedic educational system. 1500 BC to 600 BC was the span of time in which this occurred. From the time of the Rigveda forward, India's ancient education system evolved and emphasized on the holistic development of a person by taking care of both their inner and exterior selves, making it recognized across the world. Throughout India's gurukuls, Macaulay freed the use of English, and he condemned the Indian gurukuls. Teachers of gurukuls were Britishers, and the gurukuls were set on fire. An examination of Indian history's ancient schooling system is the focus of this study
