India's Medical Education through E-learning
Abstract
E-learning or learning and teaching that is supported and facilitated by the use of technology, is currently used extensively in all areas of education, including medical education. The purpose of this narrative review is to introduce the idea of e-learning and to discuss its value and application in Indian medical education. The majority of students and faculty, according to experience, are in favour of integrating e-learning alongside traditional learning because the benefits outweigh any potential discomfort. E-learning will unquestionably have a significant impact on how future medical students learn. According to theory, the gradual adoption of e-learning will encourage more medical educators to assume the roles of facilitator and competency assessor by encouraging the application of adult learning theory. It's interesting to note that despite the fact that most medical students find e-learning to be rewarding and efficient, they do not consider it to be a substitute for traditional didactic methods. In a blended approach, e-learning frequently supports instructor-led methods. Studies on nursing and medical students show that a blended learning environment consistently results in greater student satisfaction than a traditional lecture setting. Although there is frequently little difference between the two pedagogical approaches, there is no correlation between this satisfaction and test scores. The function of blended learning in medical education requires further study.
