Abstract
A sustainable earth is important to each and every person on the planet. There are many reasons going green which may start from lowering our utility bills to stopping the effects of global warming to make the planet liveable for our future generations. Libraries are social institutions which have become integral part of our Indian society; there is absolute nexus and interdependence between library and society. So libraries are also going green and it has become the emerging trend in library and information science. This paper focuses on understanding the concept and need of green libraries. An attempt is made to understand the role of librarian in green libraries.
