Plagiarism in Research: Problems and its Solutions

Abstract


The study discusses reasons for plagiarism and UGCs promotion of academic integrity and prevention of plagiarism in higher educational institutions. Several cases are there, that clearly shares about the literary theft in academic settings which may happen due to 10 reasons that includes lack of knowledge, lack of expressiveness, limited time to reach the goals or sometimes just because of unwillingness to work and few others. The paper also touched on various facets of plagiarism, including plagiarism methods, types and problems with plagiarism. It is highly suggested to read more, explore the field of knowledge, etc. to avoid plagiarism, use of anti-plagiarism tools which clearly helps the scholar to stay away from any misconduct and their limitations, and exclusion and penalties for Plagiarism as per the UGC Regulations, 2018. It is found that there are basically 4 methods that someone would encounter while going for an intentional or unintentional literary theft i.e., copy and paste, synonym replacement, manual paraphrase and translational methods. Types of plagiarism like verbatim, mosaic, paraphrasing and translational plagiarism are most common however others are equally used by scholarly writers. As uniqueness is the basis to achieve good position, one must take pledge to no plagiarism and follow established guidelines that surely will show a defined path to work without cheating and committing misconduct. Finally, the authors advocate methods to prevent plagiarism by utilizing proper citations, academic writing tools, and steps to avoid plagiarism among students, improve their academic integrity of research works, and point toward future strategies.
