Abstract
Cloud computing technology (ICT) has come up as a boon for libraries and is offering various opportunities and services for libraries to connect their services with clouds. ICT has forced the libraries and librarians to change its functioning and processing of the information retrieval system. In cloud computing, the libraries do not require the software, operating system and applications in the limits which will be provided by the service provider. Cloud computing offers a new importance in computing, it changes how we invent develop, scale, update, maintain and pay for applications and infrastructure on which they are run. This study tries to highlight basic knowledge about cloud computing, its deployment models, types, and benefits. Secondly, it also deals with cloud computing initiatives for libraries along and its benefits in LIS (Library Information Science) domain.
Keywords: Cloud computing, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as service (Paas), and software as a service (SaaS), deployment models, LIS
