Abstract

In this study, the adsorption of Methylene blue dye from water using Sapindus mukorossi seed powder was investigated. Batch experiments were carried out with various dilutions of Methylene blue to check the activity of reetha seed powder as an efficient biosorbent. The results showed that the seed powder was effective in removing Methylene blue from water, with a removal efficiency ranging from 88 to 99% at pH of 7, an adsorbent dosage of 0.1 g/L, and a contact time of 24 hours. The biosorption studies of removal of methylene blue from water using reetha seed powder were verified using Freundlich adsorption isotherm and Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm was found to fit the experimental data better, indication monolayer adsorption. The findings suggest that Sapindus mukorossi seed powder could be used as an eco-friendly, low-cost adsorbent for the removal of Methylene blue dye from water. Further research could explore its potential for removing other pollutants from water.
