A Comprehensive Review on Biological Activities of Caesalpinia crista L. (Caesalpinaceae)

Sachin B Patil, Sagar A. Deshmukh

Abstract

Caesalpinia crista L., a member of the Caesalpinaceae family, is used for medicinal purposes. It's a thorny bush that grows in the tropics of India, Sri Lanka and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, but can be found all over the world. It has a long history of importance as a therapeutic agent in the traditional plant system of India. This is a highly valued medicinal plant used in the ancient medical system since its entirety has healing powers. Antidiarrheal, anti-tumor, anti-diabetic, anti-colic, anticonvulsant, anti-helmintic, anti-fertility, anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, analgesic, Immunomodulatory and anti-viral properties have all been attributed to this plant. Alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, glycosides and saponins have all been identified through phytochemical study. This review seeks to review the existing information on Caesalpinia crista L. by summarizing its pharmacological effects, chemical components and pharmacognostic features.

Keywords
