Adaptation Trial of Niger seed (Guizotia abyssinica, Asteraceae) Varieties in Siltie Districts of Southern Ethiopia
Abstract
Niger seed adaptation trial was conducted in two districts of Siltie zone, namely Dalocha and Silti districts during 2013–14 and 2014–15 main cropping seasons to identify adaptable and high yielding niger seed varieties. Five improved varieties and one local variety were used. Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications was used for the experiments. According to the results, location by variety interaction was significant difference observed. In Dalocha district, Ginchi and in Silti district, Essete varieties were higher yielder and adaptable varieties. Therefore, these varieties should be expanded for each study area through pre-extension and demonstration.
