Review of Programmes on Soil Health Management

Padmaja Borra

Abstract

Soil testing is the key for management decisions about fertilizer requirement and judicious use. To attain higher productivity and profitability, farmers need to realize that fertility levels must be measured as these measurements can be used to manage soil fertility. To avoid deterioration of soil in long run and visualizing the importance of balance nutrient in crop production, the Government of India has started Soil Health Management Programmes. Centrally sponsored schemes like Balanced and Integrated Use of Fertilizers, Macro Management of Agriculture, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, National Project on Management of Soil Health and Fertility, Soil Health Management (SHM) under NMSA and Soil Health Card scheme have been clearly reviewed in this study. The above-mentioned soil health card schemes bring together the scientific community in the field of agriculture, the information repository of the latest tools, techniques, and cropping practices, the farmers, and the government for the economic upliftment of the people at large.
