Abstract

Abstract

A survey of traditional medicinal plants was carried out to collect the information about the medicinal plants found in Periyammalpuram village Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, South India. The results of the study revealed that the use of 71 species distributed in 37 families which were commonly used by local traditional healers for the treatment of many types of ailments. The present study explored that the herbal medicines have the hidden potential to cure many diseases. The traditional medicines are used to cure the diseases such as asthma, jaundice, various skin disorders, diabetes, dysentery, diarrhea, cold and cough. The plant-based medicines are available easily without any side effects with ease of preparation.
