Neelam Balekar, Shivani Agrawal, Subhi Jain

Abstract

Menopause brings a wave of hormonal changes in the ovaries that can lead to avariety of health issues such as cardiovascular problems, osteoporosis, bone density reduction, memory problems, urinary incontinence, and skin aging. Hormone therapy (HT) with a combination of estrogen, progestogen, and other medications can be effective. However, menopausal women also have a higher risk of developing depression and depressive episodes during menopause. Complementary therapies such as Yoga, diet, herbal remedies, and acupuncture have been shown to improve mental and physical health during menopause. The present review summarizes the current state of the art in the treatment of menopause and discusses the potential benefits and risks of this treatment.
