Dry Eye Disease: A Common Ophthalmic Problem

Abstract


Dry eye is a multifactorial disorder of tears and ocular surface caused due to unstable tear film giving rise to chronic dryness of cornea and conjunctiva. and in turn causes a feeling of dryness, foreign body sensation, pain, redness, burning, and light sensitivity. It can lead to serious complications like a corneal ulcer, which result in blindness if timely treatment is not given. The dry eye disease prevalence ranges up to 55%. As per the study, about 3.2 million females and 1.6 million men, whose ages were more than 50 years suffer from moderate to severe dry eye. Dry eye disease is occurring commonly nowadays, so in this article, one attempt is made to study dry eye in detail.
