Abstract

Background: A strong association exists between prosthetic dentistry and periodontics, as periodontal health has an important role in the longevity of the Prosthesis. For long-term success, the patient's periodontal condition needs to be stabilised. Aim: To assess the occurrence of gingival recession in patients having undergone prosthodontic treatment. Methods: Using PubMed, Sciencedirect, Lilacs, ResearchGate, and the Wiley online library, a literature search was conducted. Of a total of 21 articles screened, 13 articles were assessed for eligibility, and seven articles were taken for qualitative analysis The PRISMA reporting recommendations were followed for this review. The review procedure included seven randomised controlled studies. Results: Gingival recession was observed with the use of FPDs, in the abutment teeth of RPDs and also occurred based on the prosthesis design. Conclusion: Gingival recession occurred during and following prosthodontic treatment, maximum being associated with the use and duration of use of FPDs, and implants.
