The period includes scientific contents ubiquitously from deep space to low Earth orbit, and is repeatedly defined to include research in the higher atmosphere using sounding rockets and high-altitude balloons. Space science and space investigation involves the study of outer space itself, which is the lone part of the larger field of space exploration.
