Evaluation and Demonstration of Integrated Fish (Cyprinus carpio)-Poultry-Forage-Vegetable production in Alicho Wuriro District, SNNPR, Ethiopia

The study was conducted in Silte Zone Alicho Wuriro district, situated at about 187 km Southwest of Addis Ababa, and the objectives were to evaluate and demonstrate the use of poultry manure as a fish feed and pond organic fertilizer and the profitability of fish-poultry-horticulture - forage in the integrated farming system. Poultry breeds of Bovine brown which was layers, fish species (Cyprinus carpio) and different varieties of horticultural and forage crops viz. carrot (Daucus carota L) and fodder beet (Beta vulgaris L.) variety were investigated. The data were collected over a period of December 2017 to July 2018. The production of the integrated system was high as compared to the non-integrated ones. The fish production was positively improved due to the presence of poultry manure and wastes in water that served as fertilizer for crops production.
