Durga Kumar Pradhan

Abstract

The Sikkim Himalaya is the potential region having good populations of flora and fauna playing valuable roles in ecological aspects. These bioresources are utilized in different purposes and are available in the different altitudinal gradients, and some are endemic and unique. In such biodiversity, there are reports of sighting of new species in the region in several instances. This study contains the information of sighting of Stibochiona nicea (Gray, 1846) at the elevation of 1500 m in Sikkim Himalaya. In India, Stibochiona nicea (Gray, 1846) was reported from the lower elevations of Assam and West Bengal, and was rediscovered in Jammu and Kashmir recently. However, the record of its existence was not documented in the literature from Sikkim. As it was not reported in any literatures till this date from Sikkim Himalaya, the report included the information of the presence of Stibochiona nicea subsp. nicea Gray, 1846 in Sikkim Himalaya. It also contains the recorded GPS location of the spot for the future reference.
