Successful per vaginal Delivery of Anasarcous Foetus in a Nondescript Doe

Abstract


A third parity nondescript doe was brought to the DVCC, College of Veterinary Science, Proddatur, AP, India with the history of completed its full term gestation but not able to deliver the kid even after continuous staining. On clinical examination, vulva was swollen and an edematous limb of the foetus noticed outside the birth canal. Per vaginal examination revealed presence of large-sized disproportionate foetus with distended abdomen that fluctuated on pressure and wedged in the pelvic inlet. Attempts made to relieve the foetus by manual traction were unsuccessful. Hence foetal abdomen was punctured with the help of sharp obstetrical knife and pats of ascetic fluid were drained out. With proper lubrication female anasarcus foetus was relieved by gentle manual traction. The dam was treated initially with inj of RL 200 ml slow I/V, enrofloxacin @ 2.5 mg/kg bwt, meloxicam @ 0.1 mg/kg bwt. Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory were continued for four days leading to uneventful recovery.
