OER stands for “Open Educational Resources” and is linked to an educational movement that was started as a small initiative and has become an international educational movement in time of two decades. The facilitators who use OER for their academic purposes are freely available, high-quality educational resources that help them learn from the other freely available sources than the textbooks. It is believed that over 500 million dollars of the students could have been saved with the effective use of OERs. This amount can be expected to be more than 5000 million dollars if the facilitators and the learners have adequate knowledge about sharing and using OERs. The researcher aims to provide assorted information about using OERs most effectively to make them available and handy. OERs include openly licensed resources like textbooks, media, videos, articles, handouts, presentations, lecture notes, and many more things to learn what they want to learn. The current paper depicts the overview of open education and resources given as it is necessary to explain OER because people might not be aware of the availability of open educational resources. The present paper focuses on the fundamental understanding of OERs used by technical as well as other academic institutions. It clarifies how these resources can be utilized without faring or authentic to use them for their teaching, research, or knowledge purpose
