Correlation and Path Coefficient Analysis of Yield Related and Morphological Traits in Bread Wheat (Triticum Aestivum L.)

Abstract

Abstract

Fifty diverse genotypes of bread wheat, were evaluated during rabi season in department of Genetics and Plant Breeding at Janta Vedic College Baraut, Bagpat (U.P.), to study correlation and path coefficient analysis in bread wheat. Path coefficient analysis was carried out using correlation coefficients to establish the inter-relationship and direct and indirect contributions of yield related traits towards grain yield. Number of productive tillers per plant, grain filling index (%), biological yield per plant and harvest index exhibited highly significant and positive correlation with grain yield. Among these, biological yield per plant exhibited highest positive direct effect on grain yield followed by harvest index. The higher direct and indirect contribution of biological yield per plant, harvest index and number of tillers per plant towards total grain yield would be of great use for indirect selection for yield improvement.
