Abstract

Abstract

Soil samples were collected from Fullbari Tea-Estate area of Moulvibazar district, Bangladesh. Percentage of sand, silt and clay content, organic matter, active acidity, reserve acidity and cation exchange capacity of the collected soil samples of different topographic positions and depths were determined. Sand and clay content of the soils varied from 61.25 to 74.75%, and 12.75 to 23.75%, respectively. Percent of soil organic matter content was varied from 0.56 to 1.65. Active acidity and reserve acidity of the soils varied from 4.05 to 4.66 and 3.46 to 3.94, respectively. The difference between reserve acidity and active acidity, i.e., ∆pH varied from -0.52 to -0.85. Cation exchange capacity (CEC) was ranged from 11.04 to 23.90 cmolcKg-1. Proper application of lime may improve soil chemical properties under the studied area.

Keywords: Soil, clay content, active acidity, reserve acidity, cation exchange capacity
