Abstract

Abstract

Knowledge on poisonous plants is important as some of them are used in medicine. The poisonous nature of whole plant or any plant part may be due to production of toxic substances like alkaloids, amines, saponins, tannins etc. Sometime these products have a harmful activity to animals as well as human beings. The present paper documented 29 poisonous plants species of 29 genera belonging to 17 different families. This knowledge is very important for providing general awareness and toxicological research. The present study suggests that the tribal as well as rural people of Bankura are not only aware of such poisonous plants and their harmful affects but also use them judiciously.
