Effect of Weedicide Pendimethalin on Growth Performance and Biochemical Contents of Zea mays L.

Abstract

India is the second most popular countries in the world. The necessity of food is increased day by day due to the rapid increases of population. Many farmers used varieties of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and weedicides to increase the yield of the crop plants. The chemical fertilizers not only increase the yield of the crop plants but also affect the ecosystem of the earth. In the present study the effect of different concentrations of Pendimethalin on growth performance of Zea mays L. was investigated. The different parameters of growth performance and biochemical contents of the plant were studied.  Among all the parameters studied, lower concentration of weedicide (Pendimethalin) shows the increases of growth performance and biochemical content except phenol. Phenol was more in higher concentration of weedicide treated plants compare to control and the content was very low in lower concentration treated plants. But in higher concentration, the growth and photosynthetic pigments and protein contents were decreased. The result of the present work suggested that the increasing concentration of weedicide decreases the growth performances and lower concentration increases the growth performances.
