Dairy Entrepreneurship Among Women Self Help Group

Ankur Aggarwal, Tarun Verma, Sukriti Jaspal

Abstract

The vast majority of farmers consider dairy farming to be a vital industry. India is the largest producer of milk and has the highest population of livestock in the world, with close to 57 percent of the world's buffaloes and 16 percent of its cattle. As is becoming more widely acknowledged, dairy firms might contribute more significantly to promoting rural welfare and reducing poverty by creating jobs at the farm level. One of the essential ingredients for the growth of a dairy business, which may prove to be of utmost significance for the financial well-being of the farming community, may be an entrepreneur. Since a significant majority of rural women work in agriculture, their position as "entrepreneurs" is crucial to the country's socioeconomic and agricultural development. Various non-government and women’s organizations are also working towards the upliftment of women through awareness building, capacity building and organizing women into self-help groups (SHGs) through governance. Self-help groups have proven to be an effective strategy for female empowerment.
