Phytochemical Study of Seed Extract of Phaseolus vulgaris

Pragati Vijay, Shipra Roy

Abstract

Phaseolus vulgaris L. is usually known as kidney beans. It is a green medicinal plant that has a place with the family Fabaceae. Conventional arrangement of medication utilized this for the cure of few sicknesses such as diabetes, malignant growth, kidney issues, and so forth. For the present research work, the powdered plant seeds were dissolved consecutively in various solvents in increasing polarity order. Different phytoconstituents such as saponins, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, phenolic derivatives, sugars, alkaloids, triterpenoids, amino acids, proteins and steroids were identified by the phytochemical studies of the extracts prepared. The present investigation highlighted the phytochemical (qualitative examination) properties of P. vulgaris seeds. The results showed the presence of different phytoconstituents responsible for their medicinal activity. This will additionally help in the standardization of the extracts, isolation of the bioactive compounds and identification of active principle. This will approve the utilization of the plant in natural treatment.
